CO. SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Ballyheigue made their exit from this
year’s Garvey’s Co. Senior Hurling Championship at Causeway on Sunday.
They lost by a point to St. Brendans. Ballyheigue played against a strong
breeze in the first half. St. Brendans made a great start with three
unanswered points. Ballyheigue came more into the game and were level
midway through the first half. Two more points for St Brendans and one
point for Ballyheigue, left the score at the break Ballyheigue 0-4 and
St. Brendans 0.5. Ballyheigue scorers were Philip Lucid 0-3, Damien Casey
0-1. Ballyheigue were in good position for the second. It still took them
a while to draw level and they went ahead by a point on two occasions.
Midway through the second half St. Brendans went into a three point lead
and further point from Philip Lucid and Paudie Carroll and try as they did
they could not get that equalising score. Both sides were guilty of poor
shooting. The Ballyheigue team can hold their heads high they played well
in their two Championship outings and just came up short in both games.
Final score Ballyheigue 0-9 and St. Brendans 0-10.
