The Michael Freemantle Tag Rugby Memorial will take place on Sunday 9th
August 2015 at The Cashen Strand, Ballyduff at 1pm. It is 7-a-side mixed
beach tag rugby. Email mftagrugbymemorial@gmail.com.
All proceeds form the event is going to the Palliative Care unit of Kerry
Hospice.
Family Fun Day with Bouncy castle, children’s entertainment, penalty
shoot-out and much more. Music and refreshments will be also available on
the day.
GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Saturday night’s GAA
Lotto: 6-14-25-27. The Jackpot of €1,350 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot
will be €1,400. The two €50 winners were: Jer Reidy, Tiershanahan and Aine
O’Connor, Church Road. The €25 winner was Joe Barrett, Dirtane.
CO. SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Ballyheigue made their exit from this
year’s Garvey’s Co. Senior Hurling Championship at Causeway on Sunday.
They lost by a point to St. Brendans. Ballyheigue played against a strong
breeze in the first half. St. Brendans made a great start with three
unanswered points. Ballyheigue came more into the game and were level
midway through the first half. Two more points for St. Brendans and one
point for Ballyheigue, left the score at the break Ballyheigue 0-4 and
St. Brendans 0-5. Ballyheigue scorers were Philip Lucid 0-3, Damien Casey
0-1. Ballyheigue were in good position for the second. It still took them
a while to draw level and they went ahead by a point on two occasions.
Midway through the second half St. Brendans went into a three point lead
and further point from Philip Lucid and Paudie Carroll and try as they did
they could not get that equalising score. Both sides were guilty of poor
shooting. The Ballyheigue team can hold their heads high they played well
in their two Championship outings and just came up short in both games.
Final score Ballyheigue 0-9 and St. Brendans 0-10.
UNDER-14: The U-14 hurlers were defeated by Crotta in the North Kerry
Championship on Tuesday evening.
NORTH KERRY INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL: The Ballyheigue Intermediate
hurlers defeated Causeway after extra time in the Rhyno Mills, North Kerry
Intermediate Championship final at Kilmoyley on Friday evening. The
Causeway boys led at half-time on a score of Ballyheigue 0-6 and Causeway
1-6. The Causeway team kept their noses in front until midway through the
second half when Ballyheigue drew level and from there to the finish it was
score for score with neither side able to take control. The full time
score Ballyheigue 1-11 and Causeway 1-11. The Ballyheigue scorers in
normal time were Michael Slattery 1-5, Paudie Carroll 0-2, Conor Galway
0-2, Mark Regan 0-1, Adrian Flahive 0-1. In extra time Ballyheigue made a
good start with a great goal from Paudie Carroll and two points by Michael
Slattery. Causeway kept in touch and was only a goal behind at half time,
in extra time, with the score standing at Ballyheigue 2-13 and Causeway
1-13. Both sides scored a goal each in the final half of extra time and
Ballyheigue held out for a famous victory. Full time score after extra
time – Ballyheigue 3-13 and Causeway 2-13. The Ballyheigue goalkeeper and
backs were very solid. The two midfielders played well. The forwards had
their moments where ‘Man of the Match’ must go to the one and only Michael
Slattery who finished with a total of 2-7. Joe Walsh Chairman of the North
Kerry Hurling Board presented the ‘Tom & Kit Browne Cup’ to the Ballyheigue

UNDER-12: The Ballyheigue U-12 hurlers defeated Tralee Parnells in The Co.
League on Friday evening in Tralee - Score Ballyheigue 5-8. and Parnells

KERRY MINOR HURLERS: Congratulations to the Kerry Minor hurlers who had a
big win over Kildare at Newbridge on Saturday in the All Ireland
Championship Q-Final. Ballyheigue player Michael Leane played at full back
on the team Brian O’Riordan was also a member of the panel. Kerry will
play Down in the All Ireland semi-final on Saturday 15th August. Full time
score - Kerry 2-19 and Kildare 0-13.
FIXTURES: North Kerry Under-16 Championship Ballyheigue v Lixnaw at Lixnaw
Friday evening 6.30pm. North Kerry Under-14 Championship Ballyheigue v
Ballyduff at John Joe O’Sullivan Park Tuesday evening 6.30pm.
UNDER 21: Best of luck to the Kerry U-21 hurlers who play Meath on
Saturday.
“PATTERN DAY” WALKS: The Walk from Tralee to Ballyheigue is well
established now. A new idea is being considered i.e. A Walk from both
Tobar na Súl and from Keelviceda, two ancient monastic sites, will take
place on “Pattern” morning to meet at St. James Cemetery. From there both
groups will proceed to the Grotto in time for Mass. All are welcome.

A SUMMER CAMP will be held in Ballyheigue in August from 4th – 7th August
inclusive. Tenacity School of Performing Arts will be holding this camp for
all ages. The camp will consist of dances, vocals, drama, Arts & Crafts and
