MÍLE BUÍOCHAS: At a recent meeting of the governing Group that was
responsible for the Pattern “Thrasher” gathering delight was expressed at
the outstanding success of the Festival of faith and fun in our
traditions. Sincere thanks was extended to all who contributed to the
enjoyment of the occasion, especially the musicians, singers, dancers, both
local and from Lixnaw and Causeway CCE, the local schools and the input by
Slievevaddra N.S. Mr Donal O’Regan was also thanked for operating his
unique mini-thresher near the White Sands Hotel on the evening of the
festivities. Gratitude was also expressed to the sponsors and to all who
supported the raffle on the night. It was decided that a sum of 500 euros
from the proceeds of the raffle would be shared between the two local
schools for educational projects. The Group will have bimonthly meetings
to review and plan further developments of this parish and regional
festival.
HISTORICAL LECTURE SERIES: Ardfert Retreat Centre on Thursday 9th October
at 8.00pm ‘Famine Times in the Ardfert Area’, with Tommy O’Connor. All
welcome.
DEATH: The death took place during the week of Christy O’Sullivan, Doon,
Ballyheigue. Removal was on Monday evening from his home to St. Mary’s
Church. Following Requiem Mass burial was on Tuesday 23rd September 2014
in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballyheigue, R.I.P. Sympathy is extended to his
family, relatives and friends. Christy was a member of the Ballyheigue
hurling team and won a Co. Minor Hurling Championship Medal with
Ballyheigue in 1960 and he also won a Senior Hurling Championship Medal
with the Kingdom Club in London.
Sympathy is also extended to Pat Hobbins, Ballyheigue on the death of his
mother – Margaret Hobbins, Killorglin.
APOLOGY: The writer wishes to apologise for the misprint in the obituary
of last week and regrets any upset to family members – the correct name
should have read Eddie Lucid of Dirtane, Ballyheigue and late of
Huddersfield, England, Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Ballyheigue on 20th September 2014. R.I.P.
COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 22nd September
in the Ballyheigue and District Coursing Club Lotto: 4-9-10-28. Jackpot
was not won. The €50 winner was Jack Dunne, C/o Pat Joe. The €25 winners
were Bett Reidy, C/o Pat Joe, Rena O’Carroll, C/o Pat and Darragh Flahive,
C/o Pat Joe. Next week’s Jackpot €2,150.
PARISH MISSION: The timetable for the Mission will be in all our homes this
coming week. The Mission reaches out to all young and old, married and
single, practising and non-practising. The Redemptorist Fathers will
preach at all Masses on Saturday 4th October and Sunday 5th October.
Blessing of Babies and Young Children after each Mass on Saturday and
Sunday morning.

BALLYHEIGUE GAA CLUB: ‘Clothes Recycling Drive’ continues on 4th October
between 11.00am and 1.00pm. Please donate any unwanted textiles, shoes,
bags, belts and soft toys by dropping them to Club House. Mobile ’phones
also welcome, but please keep separate. There will be a trailer in the
Church Car Park for clothes donations after each Mass. If you require your
donations collected please contact Mike 086-3630467.
GAA PARISH LEAGUE: Over 80 under-age players took part in the Hurling
Parish League on Saturday in the John Joe O’Sullivan Park. Many thanks to
the Fr. Jerry Kirby Fund and Michael Leane, Kirby’s Bar who sponsored all
the trophies, medals and refreshments. All the players and parents had a
most enjoyable day.
FIXTURE: North Kerry Under-16 Championship final – Ballyheigue v Causeway
at Abbeydorney on Friday evening 6.30pm.
GAA OUTING: An Outing for all under-age players to Banna Leisure Centre
will go ahead this Saturday 4th October from 11.00am to 3.00pm. €10 per
child. All welcome.
GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Saturday night’s GAA
Lotto: 6-22-24-26. The Jackpot of €4,200 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot
will be €4,250. The two €50 winners were Donie White, Doon and Declan
Crowe, Marian Park. The €25 winner was Peter Fitzgerald, Heirhill.
