The Pattern Day in Ballyheigue takes place each year on the 8th September and celebrates Our Ladies Birthday. An outdoor mass is held in the Grotto at 11am and is followed by the must anticipated street shopping trip. Stalls selling every item imaginable are set up along the streets and down through the beach car park and locals soak up the atmosphere before washing it down with a cool pint of Guinness in one of the pubs.

The pubs lay on entertainment throughout the day and into the small hours of the morning.

View some photos of the Pattern Day 2012

Pattern Day 2012 was a fantastic day for Ballyheigue. The weather was beautiful with warm sunshine all day. A record crowd attended mass at the grotto and enjoyed taking a tour of the hundreds of stalls set up around the village and the beach. The stalls were selling everything from toy tractors and track suits to socket sets and sweets. The recently launched book "Ballyheigue - Our Christian Heritage" was also on sale and is a fantastic publication being sold at a very reasonable price of just €10. The pubs and restaurants did great trade as people took a break from touring the stalls for a bite to eat or a few refreshments. There was quality entertainment laid on all day and well on into the night for those who were able to last the pace. All in all a wonderful day that showcased Ballyheigue at its very best. Well done to all who helped out on the day and indeed over the last few weeks in preparation for the Pattern.
